Interview with: Emmy

Topic: Participating in the New York Production of Heathers

[Savannah]: Hi, Emmy! You had mentioned participating in the New York production of Heathers for three weeks. What were some of the key highlights of your three week trip?

[Emmy]: I would say some key highlights were working 10 hours a day with friends and directors, putting on a production I had never seen before, and we only had 2 1/2 weeks to do it. I valued the collaboration with the other characters and getting constructive criticism from them. 

[Savannah]: You worked 10 hours a day every day?!

[Emmy]: Yeah, we'd wake up at 8 and go to bed around 11. 

[Savannah]: Wow! I can only imagine how tired you and the rest of the crew must've been. Would you say that it was all worth it in the end?

[Emmy]: Yes. We threw an off-broadway production together in a short period of time—and we all did really well.

[Savannah]: What role did you play in the production?

[Emmy]: I played Heather Chandler. She was the lead Heather, all in red. 

[Savannah]: How was it playing the lead Heather? Did you feel more pressured because you had a lead role?

[Emmy]: It was out of my comfort zone for sure. I had never played a mean character before, so it was a challenge. The amount of lines and the character being a lead itself wasn't challenging or pressuring.

[Savannah]: Did you have any specific methods or tactics that helped get you into that mean role?

[Emmy]: I practiced being everything I despise in a person. Everything annoying or mean in a person, I channeled that into my acting. 

[Savannah]: You mentioned friends also being in the production. How many friends did you have participating in the show with you?

[Emmy]: I made all of my friends there. The people in the production I became friends with. Everyone was a new face to me. There were about 20-25 actors in my show. 

[Savannah]: Awesome! What would you say was your favorite part either about putting on the production, or being in New York?

[Emmy]: I got to meet so many people from different countries and states. I have friends now from all over the world.

[Savannah]: What was your least favorite part?
[Emmy]: Not getting enough sleep.

Interview with: Ava

Topic: Being a Bishop Stang student Ambassador.

[Savannah]: Hi, Ava! You had mentioned being a student ambassador. What's your main job as a student ambassador?

[Ava]: My main job as a student ambassador is to teach and lead the freshmen class along with representing the school as a whole.  As an officer, my job is to oversee the ambassador group, organize, and run the events that come with it.

[Savannah]:  What is it like working with freshmen? Do you feel there's a big disconnect?

[Ava]:  I don’t think there is much disconnect with the freshmen at all.  We have more in common than more people think; we are students at the same school, around the same age, and, sometimes, participate in the same sports. 

[Savannah]: What is the best part about being a student ambassador?

[Ava]:  The best part about being a student ambassador is talking to the freshmen at the peer mentor meetings.  Because we are in different grades, I don’t usually get to have conversations with them as much as my other friends, so I think that the meetings are a really nice way to connect with them.

[Savannah]: What is the worst part?

[Ava]:  The worst part is probably the stress before any event.

[Savannah]: What is the best experience you've had as a student ambassador?

[Ava]:  The best experience is meeting other families and representing the school at open houses aside from other advertising events.  I especially enjoy when I recognize a family and get to relate in a conversation with them.

[Savannah]: What was the worst experience?

[Ava]:   I cannot really think of a bad experience I’ve had as a student ambassador.

[Savannah]: What are some lessons you have learned while being a student ambassador?

[Ava]:  I have learned how to represent myself in front of others, I have become more comfortable speaking in large groups, and I have become a more outgoing person as a whole.

[Savannah]: Would you recommend becoming a student ambassador? If so, what advice would you give aspiring student ambassadors?

[Ava]:  I would definitely recommend becoming a student ambassador!  I would give the advice of not being afraid to get involved.  We host so many events, and it is a great way to meet other people and connect with many different families.
